A Note from Star Staffing’s CEO

California’s unemployment rate dropped to 5.1% in July, which is the lowest it’s been since February 2024, but the state also lost 20,500 nonfarm jobs. Unlike last month, that loss wasn’t seasonal but industry-specific: most of the dip came from Professional & Business Services, including Computer System Design, Advertising, and Employment Services.

The bigger story is the long-term trend: July marked eight straight months of falling unemployment statewide, with 87,600 fewer unemployed Californians over that stretch. Our state has also contributed 16.5% of the nation’s job growth this year.
