A Happy Company Starts with a Happy HR Team: 5 Ways HR Can Thrive

Thrive in HR

HR leaders, you have the best job in the world. You’re at the center and the heart of your organization — it’s people. But as you know, the best job isn’t the easiest. To thrive in HR and serve your company, it helps to get aligned and stay focused on the things that matter most.

Below are 5 ways HR teams can thrive this year:

1. Make your goals people-centered

This is the most important piece. Employees must feel valued, supported, and encouraged and it’s your unique role to help them succeed. Go beyond the basics of employee wellness and take the time to check in on employees individually – show that you care. Take the time to get to know your teams. Keep an open door and be not just willing, but eager, to hear feedback. Reinforce each employee’s connection to the purpose and ensure they know their value at the company. Lastly, support managers with the right tools and resources so they can lead with confidence and empathy.

2. Let recruiting be creative

Hiring is never-ending, so let it be creative! Try and test new things, channels, and messaging. Don’t be afraid to step out of the box to find the talent you’re seeking. Get creative with your job posts and take a deep look into where your employees and ideal job seeker spends their time.

Consider a multi-media approach – which may mean stepping out of your comfort zone or tapping employees at your company. If you don’t have a social media strategy, start by deciding which platform will work best for your audience. The opportunities are endless!

3. Always be learning

Like any profession, the more you know, the more you grow.  Don’t stop learning and growing as a professional and a leader. It will help you be better at your job, make it easier, and will help you grow as a person, which will hopefully lead to career fulfillment.

Be sure to keep an eye on trends and pivot when the data is giving you a reason to. If you’re not data-savvy,  dig into what data points are most important and then set goals around them. At the upcoming HR Summit, Ben Eubanks, the data expert, will help HR leaders understand the right data to watch and what current trends are showing. He’ll also be sharing the one thing that is limiting HR from being effective, especially after the extended global pandemic. You can’t afford to miss it!

4. Be flexible

This one will help your stress levels. Frankly, HR can be messy sometimes. As the saying goes, if you don’t bend, you’ll break. This is important to share with others including hiring managers, leadership, etc. From a hiring perspective: What are the non-negotiable skills for roles and which ones can be trained or taught?

To thrive in HR, you have to stay open and flexible to creative solutions. Keeping the best interests of your employees at heart will help keep you focused. But most importantly, don’t get stuck in your ways but be willing to pivot.

There’s a lot to keep up within the ever-changing world of HR. Not just skills and hiring, but compliance, legal updates, labor trends – the list goes on! Do yourself a favor and create a network of skilled HR leaders you can lean on. At the upcoming HR Summit, hosted by Star Staffing, there will be an interactive networking session where you can gain valuable LinkedIn contacts that you can reach out to for questions, insights, and resource sharing. You can also join a local HR group or look for HR classes that will provide insight as well as great connections.

HR leaders are crucial to organizations, and if you’re happy in your role we can bet you’ll be better at your job.
